Camp Director: Reid Cashman, the Associate Head Men’s Ice Hockey Coach at Quinnipiac University is the Boys’ Camp Director for the New England District. Coach Cashman has helped lead Quinnipiac to four straight NCAA tournament appearances and two Frozen Fours. As a player, Coach Cashman was a two-time All-American and Hobey Baker Finalist at Quinnipiac. Following Quinnipiac, he signed an NHL contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs and had a professional career that took him across North America. His last year of professional hockey was played in Linz Austria. Coach Cashman has assembled a staff of professional, college, junior and prep school coaches from throughout New England.
Check-in: Check-in for the camp will be at your son’s assigned dormitory on the 1st day of the camp. After checking in, players and parents may proceed to the rink where the players may move in to their locker room and the Camp Director will address the group (parents are welcome to attend the opening meeting). At the meeting, the camp director will discuss the schedule, accommodations, behavioral expectations and he will take questions from players and parents. Registered participants will receive an email with specific times and addresses for check-in, etc.
Schedule: Players will be on the ice at least twice per day for a combination of practices and games. There will be off-ice training sessions and educational lectures each day. The tight schedule of the camp allows for very little down time. Campers may not leave campus or the rink without a member of the camp staff.
Pre-Camp Conditioning/Training Staff: Players should be in good physical condition prior to arriving at camp. The camp includes both on and off-ice activities. All players should prepare for rigorous training. Certified athletic trainers will be available throughout the day to handle medical/training concerns. Please notify the camp administrator of any food allergies, medical conditions or dietary concerns.
Clothing: Due to the frequent on-ice sessions, players should bring several pairs of socks, under equipment, clothing and towels. Players will also need athletic shoes and clothing for off-ice activities.
Equipment: Player equipment must be USA Hockey certified. All players are required to wear an HECC approved facemask, ear pieces, and mouth guards for all on-ice activities. Player equipment should be in good condition and marked with the player’s initials. Skate sharpening is available during the camp for a nominal fee.
Residence Halls/Supervision/Meals: Typically, two players are assigned to one room. Rooming arrangements are based on team assignments and are not to be changed except through the approval of the Camp Director. Players will receive a room key at check-in (loss of a room key will result in an additional charge to the player from the university). Rooms should remain locked when unoccupied. Towels, pillows and linens are not provided. Night counselors will be on duty in the dormitory each evening while day counselors will lead players to all on and off-ice activities. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are served daily.
Money: It is not necessary for players to bring large sums of money to the camp. Some money for vending machines, pizza and skate sharpening may be useful. USA Hockey/New England District merchandise will be available for purchase at some point during the camp and through our on-line store.
Behavior: Players should remember that they are being evaluated and are expected to act appropriately at all times including in the dormitory and dining hall. Discipline will be handled by the Camp Director. Serious player misconduct could result in that player being sent home from the camp. Attending a New England District Player Development Camp is a privilege; players should view the camp as such. Cell phones must be turned off in all locker rooms, shower rooms and rest rooms.
